Safari in your front yard

One of the most common questions we receive is β€œare there safari animals on your property???!” The answer is a resounding YES! Allowing animals to roam freely is a key part of our conservation philosophy; we strive to minimize disruption to natural wildlife patterns.

Our land is frequented by a variety of animals including hippos, giraffes, warthogs, dik-diks, other antelopes, and numerous monkeys. Occasionally, predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs make an appearance.

Naretoi, the estate where The Spinney is located, has a fence to keep elephants and buffalo out, but it's not entirely foolproof. Elephants have been known to enter and enjoy feasting on our delicious yellow acacia trees.

For safety, guests must remain vigilant, especially during dawn, dusk, and nighttime. Upon arrival, our staff provides guidance on best practices for staying safe, as they are highly experienced with local wildlife. An Askari accompanies any guests wishing to go outside after dark. By staying alert and respecting the wildlife at The Spinney, guests can enjoy a magical and safe experience.

Naretoi, a Private Safari Estate

The Spinney is situated in Naretoi, a 1,000 acre private safari estate located on the north west tip of the Mara ecosystem. It was founded in 2013 as a rewilding project - the land was taken out of farming and put into conservation and eco-tourism.

The Spinney is proud to be part of this amazing story that proves that with a vision lots of hard work, you can change the world, one corner at a time.
